The SPCA is dedicated to educating young animal lovers, especially those who are interested in a future career with animals. In our Apprentice Training Program, students will learn basic animal care and welfare through constant ‘hands on’ practice with our shelter cats and small animals. Interactive learning experiences involving proper handling techniques, socialization, enrichment exercises and cage cleaning will give apprentices valuable animal experience for resumes and pet ownership. Apprentices will also be involved in other areas of the SPCA such as adoptions and children’s animal education programs where they will have the opportunity to practice their leadership skills. This program will allow practice in valuable skills such as time management, working in teams and speaking with the public. Apprentices can begin to accumulate the 40 volunteer hours neccessary to obtain an Ontario Secondary School Dipolma.

Please be advised that dogs and birds are not a part of this program.
