A 2 hour surgery saved his life...

Conner came to us from the City of Hamilton Animal Control as a stray.  Within 48 hours of being in our care the staff noticed Conner had rapidly become very ill. The staff alerted the Veterinary Technician and our Veterinarian was informed immediately to his condition.  The Veterinarian and Veterinary Technician were quick to diagnose that Conner had developed what is referred to as “Bloat”.  It usually happens when there's an abnormal accumulation of air, fluid, and/or foam in the stomach.  As the stomach swells, it may rotate 90° to 360°, twisting between its fixed attachments at the esophagus (food tube) and at the duodenum (the upper intestine).  The twisting stomach traps air, food, and water in the stomach.  The bloated stomach obstructs veins in the abdomen, leading to low blood pressure, shock, and damage to internal organs.  The combined effect can quickly kill a dog. Luckily the Veterinarian and Veterinary Technician were able to get him into surgery quickly and preformed the lifesaving operation Conner needed.  Even through all the pain Conner was in prior to surgery and after surgery he never stopped wagging his tail and giving kisses to all the staff members.  Conner remained in our Companion Animal Hospital for 2 weeks post-surgery and then was placed in a foster home for almost3 weeks to recover.   We are please to inform you that Conner was adopted to his forever home on October 12th. Conner’s life was saved thanks to your generous donations!

One week changed her life...

Olive, an orange tabby cat was surrendered into the care of the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA on August 24th  by her previous owner. Her left eye had been badly damaged two weeks prior but the previous owner could not afford treatment. She had never been to a regular veterinarian and was not spayed or up to date on her vaccinations.  On August 25th she had a right eye enucleation, which meant Olive's eye was removed but the muscles and remaining orbital contents were left in tact.  Olive was also spayed and a microchiped, as all SPCA Companion Animals are when they arrive. She recovered incredibly well from surgery and is quite friendly and quite a survivor. Olive went to her forever home on September 20th! Olive was able to recover and find her forever home because of your generous contributions to the SPCA, thank you!

Lola was surrendered to the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA. At our Companion Animal Hospital we ran blood work, and sent away a biopsy of her mass to make sure it was not cancerous. Everything came back well and she underwent surgery to have the mass removed and well as several other smaller growths. She recovered with the help of our Animal Care Team for about a week and was adopted the day she went up for adoption. Lola's life was saved thanks to your generous contributions to the SPCA!

One month changed their lives…

Four puppies from Animal Control came into care at the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA with a condition called Demodex.  Demodex is a skin disease in dogs that occurs when large numbers of Demodex canis mites inhabit hair follicles and sebaceous glands.  The puppies were immediately started on medication and placed in foster care.  Each returned to the Companion Animal Hospital for frequent Mitaban dips.  Hannah Montana, Oliver, Jackson, and Miley Cyrus's lives were saved thanks to the medical attention they received, the love and care they received in foster care and those who welcomed them into their forever homes.  Their lives were changed forever due to your generous contributions to the SPCA!
