Volunteer

** Please be advised the HBSPCA Volunteer Department is currently restructuring. Orientations for new volunteers will recommence in early 2012 and new volunteers will be contacted at that time. Thank you for your patience.**

Our Volunteer Services Department works to match your skills, interests and availability with our many internal programs and services to ensure that you get the most out of your volunteer experience at the HBSPCA. Volunteer positions include:
  • Assisting in our Kennels or Companion Animal Hospital
  • Assisting in the Adoption Centre
  • Dog Walking
  • Socializing small animals
  • Fostering animals
  • Assisting our Pet Encounter Therapy program
  • Assisting in our Administrative office, Development department or with building maintenance
  • Child and Youth Education
HBSPCA volunteers must be over 16 years of age.

Youth under 16 can still accumulate OSSD-required volunteer hours through our Child & Youth Education  programs.

Our volunteer application procedure will match your skills, interests and availability with the needs of our volunteer opportunities. Here's how it works:
  1. Check out the website www.hbspca.com or our Volunteer Openings List at the shelter for current opportunities. If one sounds right for you, pick up an application package from the shelter.
  2. Return the completed forms in a sealed envelope along with a letter that identifies the position to which you are applying and your skills and experience. Please write 'Volunteer Application' on the outside of the envelope.
  3. Apply for a police record check (you will get a form at your interview). The cost is $15 with the letter you will get from us.
  4. Participate in orientation and training sessions specific to your volunteer role.
  5. Meet your team leader and sign up for your volunteer shifts
  6. Arrange for photo date at shelter for your new ID badge.
  7. Start your new, fulfilling opportunity to make a huge difference in your community.
  8. Receive ongoing feedback and a 6 month review.
  9. Make an enormous difference in the lives of others.

Please fill out an application and return it to: Volunteer Services, 245 Dartnall Road, Hamilton L8W 3V9
