Irene Desjardins has been a proud supporter of the HBSPCA for 34 years. Animals are a big part of her life. They’re her family. In fact, supporting animals and animal welfare organizations is kind of a family affair for Irene and her kids.
It all started in 1989 when Irene read a newspaper article about the mistreatment of animals. Her heart couldn’t bear it and she knew she had to do what she could to help. Taking action is what Irene does. She’s not a sit-and-do-nothing kind of person; she’s a dive-into-the-deepend-and-make-change kind of person. The pets in our care for the past three decades are incredibly grateful for that.
She’s a cat lover through and through. Rescuing cats is meaningful work to her and her children. In fact, her children rescue cats in other parts of Ontario. The Desjardins are a feline’s best friend. No doubt! She credits her cat Luci for helping her navigate grief when her husband passed away. She knows the unparalleled love of animals deeply.
