Friday October 30

Dear Friends of the Animals

It is week 33 in the Times of COVID.  It’s hard to believe. The weight of change in this extraordinary year in these extraordinary times feels heavy sometimes, for everyone. Yet today, there is lots for which we are grateful. As Friends of the Animals, you have helped your local Society weather the Times and serve the animals and their families, every day.

Yesterday, the Spectator Reader’s Choice Awards were announced. The Hamilton/Burlington SPCA was recognized in two categories of service –a Platinum Award for Animal Rescue and a Gold Award for Adoption Services. On behalf of our volunteers and Staff making a difference every day we are humbled and delighted. These are not peer awards nor are they professional panel awards. Nominations come from those who have experience with the service and community members vote. We are reminded it is a privilege to serve.

At the same time, we are not alone. It takes a village to grow a humane community and we give a shout out to some of the other rescue groups recognized for making a difference every day, all for the animals.  Paws UP to Pantry Four Paws, Ladybird Animal Sanctuary, Salty Dog Rescue, and our very close friends at The Cat Clinic.

For the first time in the HBSPCA Lottery history, all tickets have been purchased prior to the Early Bird Draw happening today.  The Fall Lottery is sold out!  Our volunteers have been busy – they respond to all requests for tickets, they mail and email tickets and process donations, and they are all smiling broadly today. There will be daily draws through November and winners will be posted daily. As has been said for years now – When You play, the Animals always win. Couldn’t be truer this Fall. Thank you.

Thank you, Friends of the Animals, for your stellar support always and especially these past seven+ months.

The care continues. Just this week our sweet Enchanted found her forever home! Found by a hiker in the woods this outgoing, precocious kitten with a lovely disposition was not only filthy dirty, she was covered in lice, loaded with ear mites and in need of help. Your donations made it possible for us to provide the care she needed and find her a forever home with a lovely family complete with kids and a couple dogs.

Donors make a difference every day. Thank you.
