Nail Clipping

Microchip

Micro chipping is a wonderful thing you can do for your pet.

Pets that have microchips have a far greater chance of being reunited with their family when they get lost, or even stolen. According to the American Humane Association, only 22% of lost dogs overall were returned to their families, while the return-to-owner rate for micro chipped dogs was over 52%.

Microchips are approximately the size of a grain of rice and are inserted beneath an animal’s skin, between its shoulder blades. The process is painless and takes about 2 minutes. Each microchip has a unique identification number and contains contact information for the pet’s owner. A scanner is used to collect the information on the microchip once it has been inserted. A microchip provides a permanent means of identification for your pet.

We offer microchipping by appointment for $40.00.

Pet Health Outreach Clinics

The Hamilton/Burlington SPCA is proud to offer Pet Health Outreach Clinics to pet guardians in our community. We understand the challenges our community has and continues to face. We believe it is more important now than ever to provide accessible veterinary care in the Hamilton/Burlington area.

Our Pet Health Outreach Clinics provide a full exam, core vaccines (Rabies/FVRCP/DA2PP), a dose of flea prevention and a broad spectrum dewormer at a cost of just $20 to the pet guardian.

We encourage all pet guardians to seek out a primary care veterinary hospital for routine medical care, however we understand that at times circumstances can change and access to wellness veterinary care may be more challenging. Our aim is to bridge the gap for pet guardians to be able to provide preventative healthcare, where they otherwise would be unable to.

Flea/Tick Prevention

The Hamilton Burlington SPCA can help!

We are now selling Advantage, in the adoption centre, for both cats and dogs and Advantix for dogs.

Know who doesn’t understand social distancing? FLEAS & TICKS!

These pesky critters have an agenda all their own and are not at all concerned about anything else happening in the world.

Fleas are very active insects, feeding on blood from animals and people. They jump onto passing animals and burrow down into the fur to the skin, where they stay well hidden while biting and ingesting blood. This is irritating to the animal, and to humans as well, as the bites can cause severe itching and inflammation.

Advantage is available for cats, dogs and small animals such as rabbits and ferrets and is sold in boxes of 6 or boxes of 2.  Advantage will protect your pet from fleas.

Advantix is for DOGS ONLY and will protect your dog from fleas and ticks.

Both products are based on your pet’s weight and are applied every 30 days.
