A first-of-its-kind in North America, the Animal Welfare Hub is a 55,000 ft², state-of-the-art facility within a six acre master-planned community that will serve animals from all walks of life, at every stage of their life, for generations to come.

Animal welfare hub

Our Pet First Animal Welfare Campus will provide every companion animal in need with access to better care. For the love of all pets, this project will become an example of what shelter medicine can, and should, look like, while exponentially increasing surgeries, housing, and community support.

Animal Shelter

We're pioneering a new animal shelter model, prioritizing outdoor space to the same level as indoor housing. We're reducing length of stay and creating rapid adoption and foster pathways, while more than tripling housing space.

The Animal Shelter is where compassion comes to life—housing dogs and cats in modern, low-stress environments designed for health, enrichment, and adoptability. Featuring small-group canine condos, quiet feline rooms with outdoor catios, and dedicated play areas, including a dog splash pad, the shelter ensures every animal receives physical and emotional care. Through adoption and fostering programs, pets connect with families ready to give them a second chance. Every design element—sound control, natural light, and accessible outdoor spaces—supports recovery, socialization, and joy. The Animal Shelter is HBSPCA’s beating heart, where healing begins and love finds its forever home.

Community Cats

We’re tackling cat overpopulation at its source— doubling TNVR recovery capacity to humanely manage community cats and prevent thousands of litters each year.

The Community Cats program focuses on compassion and prevention, addressing feline overpopulation before it reaches the shelter. Through Trap–Neuter–Vaccinate–Return (TNVR), HBSPCA humanely stabilizes community cat colonies, preventing the birth of thousands of homeless kittens annually. The new Hub includes a dedicated recovery space that doubles capacity, allowing more cats to receive surgery, vaccines, and post-operative care in a safe, low-stress environment. Once healthy, these cats are returned to their outdoor homes, where they can live comfortably without contributing to population growth. This proactive, data-driven approach reduces intake pressure, disease risk, and suffering—strengthening community-wide animal welfare.

Pet Health Outreach

We’re expanding access to preventive care—delivering low-cost wellness clinics, vaccinations, and education that keep pets healthy, families together, and animals out of shelters.

The Pet Health Outreach program brings compassionate, affordable veterinary care directly to the community. Through wellness clinics, vaccination drives, and preventive health education, HBSPCA helps families overcome financial and logistical barriers to pet care. Many surrenders begin with treatable medical issues—by addressing these early, outreach prevents crisis and keeps pets with the people who love them. The program also supports underserved populations, including low-income families and unhoused individuals, offering free or subsidized services that promote both animal and public health. Pet Health Outreach is prevention in action—strengthening the human–animal bond before hardship becomes heartbreak.

We’re shaping the next generation of compassionate leaders—becoming Canada’s first shelter-medicine teaching hospital with classrooms and training spaces for learning, collaboration, and hands-on experience

The Humane Education program empowers children, youth, and future veterinary professionals to understand the deep connection between people and animals. Through school partnerships, workshops, camps, and on-site learning, HBSPCA teaches empathy, responsibility, and humane care while developing practical skills for real-world animal welfare. As Canada’s first shelter-medicine teaching hospital, the new Hub will host classrooms, labs, and observation spaces where students and professionals learn directly within a working animal-care environment. Humane Education at HBSPCA goes beyond awareness—it builds compassion, competence, and leadership, preparing the next generation to champion animal welfare in their communities and careers.

ANIMAL HOSPITAL

We’re building Canada’s first non-profit walk-in vet clinic and full-service community hospital—combining urgent care, surgery, diagnostics, and teaching to make high-quality veterinary medicine accessible to every family

The Animal Hospital is the medical core of the Unleash Love Hub—an integrated, full-service facility providing walk-in care, surgery, diagnostics, and urgent treatment for both shelter and community pets. As Canada’s first non-profit veterinary hospital of its kind, it removes barriers to care by offering affordable, compassionate medical services while also serving as a teaching hospital for future veterinarians. With six operating rooms, eight exam rooms, and advanced diagnostic equipment, it will dramatically expand HBSPCA’s capacity to treat and heal. This hospital ensures every animal receives expert, timely care—regardless of circumstance—while shaping the next generation of veterinary professionals.

We’re building Canada’s largest animal welfare volunteer-powered movement—training, equipping, and empowering community members to deliver over 90% of the care that keeps HBSPCA thriving.

Volunteers are the driving force behind HBSPCA, delivering over 90% of the organization’s daily care and operations. The new Hub will strengthen this foundation through the Volunteer Learning & Collaboration Centre, Mission Control, and connected training spaces that prepare community members to work confidently alongside staff. From adoptions and animal care to outreach, education, and administrative support, volunteers will lead with skill, compassion, and pride. By investing in flexible learning, recognition, and collaboration areas, HBSPCA is building Canada’s largest volunteer-powered animal welfare movement—proving that with the right tools and training, community passion can achieve extraordinary professional impact.

We’re redefining compassion in end-of-life care—creating private spaces where families can say goodbye with dignity, empathy, and peace, supported by affordable on-site aftercare.

The End-of-Life Centre is a deeply compassionate space designed to provide comfort, dignity, and privacy during one of life’s hardest moments. Featuring four private farewell rooms—a fourfold increase from the current facility—and a tranquil, dedicated lobby, families can remain together as they say goodbye to their beloved pets. Supported by the on-site Cremation & After-Care Centre, HBSPCA ensures that every farewell is handled with empathy and respect, regardless of financial means. This expanded capacity allows more families to access affordable, compassionate end-of-life services, ensuring every pet’s final moments are guided by love, care, and quiet understanding.
