HAMILTON, ON (April 27th, 2022) –

16 years ago, Christine Steeves started volunteering with the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA.

Christine began her volunteer journey through the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA Pet Visitor program, a program that visits community members to share the warmth and love of four-legged friends. The Hamilton/Burlington SPCA Pet Visitor program visits libraries, hospitals, schools, and various other community organizations.

Since starting with the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA, Christine has expanded her volunteer experience and has fostered pets waiting for their furever home. Christine also supports other animal welfare organizations by volunteering in foster care programs whenever she can.

Christine has donated almost 7,000 hours to supporting and caring for recuperating animals alongside the Veterinary team in the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA Companion Animal Hospital. She supports various animals during health appointments scheduled for community pets, and those the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA currently cares for.

In addition to volunteering, over the years Christine formed a connection to two special pets that required a little extra care and adopted them from the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA. Christine adopted a very loving and sweet elderly dog, and later, a mom who had just had a litter of puppies and was recuperating from Heartworm disease.

Christine has always been there for the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA  – even when her car broke down unexpectedly, and through a seven-hour trek in the snow to make a 9:00 a.m. shift to help the animals!

During this year’s National Volunteer Week, we celebrate Christine for the dedication and commitment she continues to give to the pets and people visiting the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA.

Thank you, Christine!
