The Hamilton/Burlington SPCA (HBSPCA) is a leader in animal welfare in the Golden Horseshoe and one of Ontario’s most progressive animal welfare agencies. The HBSPCA is a not-for-profit animal welfare organization largely supported by donors and friends of the animals. Relations with donors are of top importance; donors make miracles happen every day for animals in the community and in care.

The Position
The Major & Planned Giving Officer is a new role within the organization. The Major & Planned Giving Officer is a self-starter, excellent communicator and is sophisticated and diplomatic when dealing with existing and new donors in our community and abroad.

The Major and Planned Giving Officer assists in planning and implementing activities to meet the long-term goal of building HBSPCA planned gifts, as well as raising current support for operations. The Major and Planned Giving Officer meets with donors and prospects to qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward planned and major gifts, working as part of a collaborative team across the Giving Division.

This position reports to the Director of Individual Giving. As much time as possible is expected to be spent visiting with, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors and prospects.
You will work with third party organizations like lawyers, funeral homes, estate professionals as the low hanging lead generation opportunities. You recognize that prospecting is both corporate and individual.

As the successful candidate, you will bring your “can do” attitude to fulfill the following responsibilities:
Position Responsibilities Include:
•Identify with the Director of Data, Privacy & Architecture a portfolio of potential donors tocultivate and steward along with new and ongoing identified prospects.
•Lead the development and implementation of a leadership circle of cause champions and higher $2,500. + annual gift donors
•Identify the potential of a HBSPCA endowment fund.
•Identify and build a Potential Campaign (i.e. Inspired by you Campaign)
•Manage a portfolio of up too 150 major and planned giving prospects and donors to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward supporters, including:
– Planned giving prospects and donors to secure and formalize their planned gifts and to deepen their relationships with HBSPCA.
– Potential and current major gift and restricted gift donors to support current operations.
•Conduct face to face visits with Legacy prospects and major planned gift prospects –approximately 50% planned giving, 50% major donors.
•Develop written proposals, illustrations, gift agreements, renewal letters, and other donor communications.
•Develop strategies and execute marketing plans to promote planned gifts among HBSPCA constituents through mail, surveys, on-air spots, web, e-mail, and print media.
•Participate in major and planned gift donor events for HBSPCA, including planning,execution, and speaking roles, as required.
•Serve as the lead of HBSPCA Major & Planned Giving Team and larger Giving Team, including participating in planning meetings, retreats, task forces, and as liaison to HBSPCA content areas.
•Document donor contacts in donor management / Raisers Edge system following established protocols.
•Provide regular reports on prospect management and fundraising results.
•Regularly travel to serve donors across Hamilton and occasionally travel provincially.
•Other duties as assigned.

Community Cat Manager

The Position

Are you passionate about animal welfare and community engagement? Join us as a Community Cat Manager and spearhead the impactful Community Catsnip program aimed at improving the lives of community cats through the Trap Neuter Vaccinate Return (TNVR) initiative.

This pivotal role involves daily operations management, extensive collaboration with community cat organizations, and building strong alliances with companion hospital staff. As the Community Cat Manager, you will lead the administrative aspects of our TNVR program, ensuring resources such as food and trapping supplies are consistently delivered to our registered partners. Your responsibilities will also include organizing TNVR schedules, directly participating in and supporting trapping efforts, and guiding a dedicated team of volunteers towards our collective goals. This position demands a candidate who excels in communication, decision-making, and time management.

The full compensation package ranges from 45K to 60K annually.

Key Accountabilities:
1.Administrative

•Maintain the Petpoint database and Member information platform and systems, updating information and processing records daily.

•Develop, Build and Distribute a Welcome Package for each of the three Membership levels. •Feeder•Trapper•Caregiver

•Respond and Document Emails and Phone Calls to service community, partners, and staff inquiries.

•Manage the inventory of Supplies for participants including but not limited to Food Deliveries, Trap Resources, Welcome Kits within the Petpoint database platform to track distribution and collection timings.

•Responsible to work with and communicate the surgery schedule (appointments) online with the Hospital and ensure that individuals understand the form they are signing.
•Assists drop off of community cats into care and overnight holding in the recovery centre.

•Assists with day of surgery helping hospital and clients with drop off and pick up.

•Responsible for feeding the overnight cats (Water and Food) the day after surgery. Maintaining the Recovery Centre

•Coordinate Pick Up and Delivery Schedules for Volunteers and Staff to pickup and deliver Community Cats as well as supplies and food.

•Adhere to safe workplace practices, policies, and procedures.

•Fulfill additional duties as assigned.

2.Community Outreach

•Create a warm and welcoming environment for patients and their pet parents.

•Promote, advertise and coordinate Community Door to Door Program Enhancement to recruit more caregivers and feeders.

•Develop and implement marketing strategies to encourage community partners to work with us on using our services and capturing stories.

•Participate in community meetings, serve on committees, and assist with advocacy information to support leadership.

•Foster strong community relationships with cat-specific community partners.

•Work with leadership to devise strategies that enhance community awareness of our programs.

•Identify fundraising opportunities to support and expand the cat program.

•Collaborate with the Fund Development team or Director to identify potential sponsors and pitch for sponsorship to support the program.

3.Volunteer Coordination

•Promote and enhance volunteer engagement, train volunteers, and delegate appropriate trapping sites to experienced volunteers. In office Admin, Trappers, Team Volunteer Groups

•Regularly update caregivers to maintain current information and work towards a 100%sterilization rate for new cats in the colony.

•Explain and promote HBSPCA programs to caregivers and the community clearly and effectively.

4.Work Schedule

•Conduct site visits, and perform trapping and transportation as needed.

•Transport cats safely using HBSPCA vehicles, following established protocols.

•Distribute food assistance to caregivers as supplies allow.

•Collaborate with shelter intake staff to allocate space for kittens.

•Contribute positively to the team environment by offering solutions and ideas for daily challenges.

•Represent the brand professionally as a brand ambassador, ensuring approachability and enthusiasm.

•Wear the assigned uniform in a clean and professional manner.

•Identify any health and safety issues and report them to your supervisor immediately.

Overview

Responsibilities

•A Kennel Attendant, often referred to as a Kennel Worker or Kennel Assistant, is responsible for the care and maintenance of animals in a kennel, animal shelter, or boarding facility. Their job description typically includes:
•Providing daily care and attention to animals, including feeding, watering, and ensuring their overall well-being.
•Cleaning and sanitizing kennels, cages, and living areas to maintain a safe and hygienic environment for the animals.

Responsibilities:
•Integral support to the community facing role.

•Serve as an SPCA liaison, addressing inquiries and providing resources to pet owners and adoption families.
•Facilitating Meet & Greets with animals and families.
•Facilitating final transaction for the adoption.
