What to Expect

We are thrilled to once again partner with K9 Principles Dog Training to bring their highly regarded and informative training series to our HBSPCA volunteers! These engaging sessions focus on key topics such as basic dog training techniques, understanding and managing canine anxiety and behaviour, and will include a dedicated opportunity for volunteers to ask questions directly to the experts.

Why We Do It

At the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA, we believe that training is the cornerstone of an effective volunteer program. It’s how we ensure every volunteer feels confident, knowledgeable, and supported in their role—whether they’re assisting directly with shelter animals or engaging the public in animal welfare education. Comprehensive training gives our volunteers the tools and understanding they need to create positive experiences for the animals in our care, support our shelter teams, and strengthen the human-animal bond that lies at the heart of our mission.

These learning opportunities also go beyond the shelter. Volunteers often find that the knowledge and insights they gain through programs like this help them better understand their own pets at home. From reading subtle behavioral cues to managing stress and building trust, the skills learned here benefit both shelter animals and personal companions alike. Training empowers volunteers to be confident advocates for animals everywhere—sharing what they learn to help others in the community make compassionate, informed decisions about pet care and behavior.

Our Partner, K9 Principles

With unwavering passion and decades of experience, K9 Principles is dedicated to transforming canine behaviour through evidence-based, compassionate training techniques—one paw at a time.
