Fin de vie empreinte de compassion ‹Soins à l'HBSPCA

For countless individuals, pets are more than just animals; they're cherished family members, bringing endless joy, laughter, and cherished moments. Yet, with all the unconditional love and joy they bring into our lives, there comes a time when we face the profound responsibility of ensuring their peace and dignity in their final moments.

We do recommend that you contact your pet’s regular veterinarian for euthanasia services if possible. If cost is an obstacle when it’s time to say goodbye to your beloved pet due to old age or illness we are available to help. We offer caring, compassionate euthanasia services.

Navigating Difficult Choices with Empathy

The journey of being a pet owner is punctuated with beautiful memories, but it also leads to heart-wrenching decisions, especially when it comes to determining the best path for end-of-life care. At Hamilton/Burlington SPCA, we deeply recognize the weight of this responsibility, and we're here to guide, support, and stand beside you during these challenging times.‹ ‹

Owner-Requested Euthanasia: Guided by Love and Compassion

‹It's the deep love and bond we share with our pets that makes witnessing their pain in their twilight moments immensely difficult. If you believe your cherished companion is suffering or in distress, the HBSPCA extends its arms to help. For those who need our euthanasia services, you can reach out to Orient at (905) 574-7722. Our priority is to provide a serene and supportive environment for both you and your pet.

For those who wish to be close to their pet during this tender moment, the HBSPCA welcomes you to say a final goodbye in our specially designed "Rainbow Room." Afterwards, your pet will be guided privately into our animal hospital for humane euthanasia.

Situated at 245 Dartnall Road in Hamilton, Ontario, the Animal Hospital of HBSPCA offers free parking for all visitors. When you arrive for this essential appointment, please connect with Natalie at Companion Hospital Entrance. Our commitment is to be there for you, ensuring your pet's final moments are filled with love, respect, and dignity.

You Don't Have to Navigate This Alone

Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is one of the hardest things we face as animal lovers. Whether you're preparing for the end of your pet's life or processing grief after a loss, support is available.

The HBSPCA offers compassionate pet grief support through TheraPaws — 1:1 sessions with a trained counsellor, available in person, outdoors, or virtually, and uniquely supported by the calming presence of an animal companion. Group bereavement sessions are also available for those who find comfort in community.

Ways to Remember

In Loving Memory of
Petunia

After seeing the silliest adoption photo of this fang-less critter, I brought Petunia home in August 2022. I spent weeks in contact with the SPCA, keeping my fingers crossed she wouldn't be adopted before I moved to Hamilton. Thank goodness she was still there waiting for me.

‍

I don’t know what Petunia’s story was for the first 9 years of her life, but I am honoured to have been able to give her the comfortable, safe, calm life she deserved for the next 4 years. And she did the same for me! Being in your 20’s is HARD and Petunia was a peaceful (albeit quirky) friend to come home to when things felt difficult and confusing.

‍

Petunia / The Goob / Gooby / Goob, Adam and I will miss you every single day. You were truly the cherry on top in our cute little life. We keep expecting to see you “fwomp”ed on the rug waiting for pets, to feel you bonking our legs with your headbutts, or find you sitting on the stairs sassily telling us it’s time to do a “treasure hunt” with your treats.

‍

Love you, Miss Goob. Hope you’re in a warm sunbeam on your window bench in the sky with a view of the birds.

In Loving Memory of
Onyx

Onyx Woloschuk was the best friend I could ever ask for. Any time I would leave the house, he would greet me at the door when I arrived home. Anytime I walked around the house, he would follow me like my shadow. Onyx knew when I was sick & he wouldn't leave my side. He loved going for walks, barking at the outdoor cats through the front window, & he had an appetite for food not unlike my own. Onyx knew that if I was ordering fast food, he was in for a treat, especially McDonald's, he loved his plain hamburger from McDonald's. When I adopted Onyx back in 2015, he was a rescue & he had a rough upbringing before I got him. He had major trust issues, but I knew I could count on him to keep me safe. There were a select few of my friends & family he absolutely adored, but for some, that was not the case. Onyx & I were best friends for the most amazing 10 years, we had a lifetime of love, snuggles & fun. Even though I received Onyx from a pet adoption agency, he was the one who rescued me. I love you buddy, I know you're watching over me while chewing bones & chasing those pesky cats. I will NEVER forget you. "Run In Paradise" â€ïžđŸ˜August 29, 2011 - March 18, 2026

In Loving Memory of
Roxie - OG

Roxy - OG was born on six nations reservation. I bought her at 8 months old in hamilton Ontario from a young man who took the decision he thought was best for her and gave her up to me. She loved to put her nose to mine and look into my eyes. Her nose had a remarkable honey smell when she was younger and she was very boisterous with her vocalization when happily meeting other dogs. She lived a lovefull life and passed away peacefully with mercy and love at the ripe age of 16.

In Loving Memory of
Elle

My little bestie passed unexpectedly on November 6, 2025. Elle loved laying in laundry, soaking in the morning sun, eating meat tubes and laying on the couch with her parents. She was the perfect mix of sweet and sass all in one. I got her during some really tough times and Elle’s love and heart always got me through them. Despite being the darkest couple to exist - she brought so much light to the world. Enjoy all the cozy blankets, cartoons and treats you want until your mom and dad can snuggle you again. Thank you for being my best friend.

In Loving Memory of

In Loving Memory of
Olivia

We had a really hard time dealing with the loss of Olivia. She was 13 but one day when I got home from work. She was on the floor in so much pain. We rushed her to the hospital where they euthanized her and she gracefully passed on because, A wise woman told me that ,When your time is up, Your time is up. She died on May 10 2023. She helped me get through tough times. We went home with no cat but my other two cats were so broken hearted that they stopped eating and drinking for 2 days. We love you so much. You will always be in our hearts. Moral Of The Story: Cherish your pets while they are still here, Alive and Well.

Molly passed away June 30th.

‍

We rescued her in September 2015. We had ten beautiful years together. She had a lot of anxiety but over time, with love and consistency and stability, she became the most perfect dog.

‍

Every day since her passing this house has been so empty and we miss the way she would love us and bring us to life. Dear Molly, may you be free sniffing your way on all the trails your paws can take you down.

‍

You will always be our little girl! ❀

In Loving Memory of
Ophelia

With deep sorrow we said goodbye to our dear Ophelia on August 1st 2025.

‍

Formerly known as Princess Molly, Ophelia came into our lives on a bright summer day in June 2011. She was shy, skinny, and a little scratched up, but she had a quiet resilience and determination about her.

‍

It was an honour to watch her blossom into the plucky girl who loved going for walks, galloping proudly through the grass, and stretching out in the warm sunshine with a contented sigh. We will especially miss her distinctive way of showing affection, in which she would wind herself through our ankles to perform her signature "happy hops". She was endearingly quirky, curious, silly, and full of gumption - all qualities that she retained well into her advanced years.

‍

We are so grateful to the SPCA for allowing us to make her a part of our family.Thank you Ophelia for the 14 years you spent with us. We will miss you terribly.

In Loving Memory of
Roxy

In the autumn of 2012, we came to your shelter looking for a companion for a very energetic and sassy little Jack Russell. We met with several dogs; a Pomeranian, another terrier mix--and then one visit, this beagle mix was in the meeting room with another family, and she saw us through the window. She came up and barked at us, and... when the other family didn't take her home, we asked to meet her.

‍

She was gentle with our senior terrier, and playful with our Jack Russell. We took her home, and while she spent a few months unsure of us, she warmed to the family. And we fell in love with her. Over the years, she was such a gift to us. From 'dancing' with people by getting up on her hind legs and putting her paws on their waist to her neverending passion for food. We took her everywhere, her favourite place being Princess Point.

‍

The memories will last a lifetime. But she left us far too soon this past January after a battle with cancer. The house is far too quiet without her. But it's heartening to know she's not alone, as our three other dogs are with her, too.

‍

Thank you, HBSPCA. Life would've never been the same had we never met Roxy. And Pam: your guidance, kindness and expertise are still fondly remembered. Thank you, for matching us with this literal angel.

In Loving Memory of
Peaches

Today, we say goodbye to a beloved member of our family, Peaches, who filled our lives with love and joy for an amazing 15 years.

‍

Peaches came into my life as a tiny bundle of fur, needing care and comfort from the very beginning. I bottle-fed him, and from those first moments, he became more than a pet—he became my rock. When I moved to Canada and was on my own, Peaches was my constant companion, offering me a kind of unconditional love and understanding that words can barely capture.

‍

Peaches, you were my heart. Your personality was as big as your love—you had so much to say, and I truly believe we understood each other in a way that was unique and special. Your cuddles were a balm to my soul, your presence a light in both good times and bad. You were there for everything—perched on my computer while I worked, basking on the deck in the sun, and sitting beside me as I navigated life’s challenges and celebrated its joys.

‍

You made my heart full, little one. You were my family, my confidant, my love. Life feels a little emptier now without you here, but I take comfort in knowing that you’re joining your sister, and that the time we had together was full of love and memories I will treasure forever.

‍

I will always remember you, Peachy. You were so much of my life, and you always will be. Rest now, sweet boy—you’ve left pawprints on my heart that will never fade.

‍

With all my love,

Your family forever

In Loving Memory of DJ Kayum! On February 8, 2024, I said goodbye to my beloved companion, DJ.

‍

More than just a pet, he was a true friend and a loyal presence through every high and low. With a boundless spirit and unwavering love, DJ brought warmth and joy into my life that will never be forgotten.

‍

DJ had a unique way of making each day brighter. From his playful antics to the quiet moments of comfort, he filled my heart with happiness and companionship.

‍

Though the ache of his absence is strong, I carry forward the love and joy DJ brought into my life. He taught me about loyalty, kindness, and the beauty of simply being present with those we love.

‍

DJ may have left this world, but his spirit remains with me in every cherished memory.Until we meet again, my sweet fur-baby boy, DJ. Thank you for everything. Momma loves you very much!

In Loving Memory of
Lucky

I found Lucky when he was about a day old and took him to the vet to see if they could help as I was only 18 at the time and wasn’t sure what to do with a kitten so young, they told me he most likely wouldn’t make it so I went and got everything I thought I’d need for him to be able to take care of a kitten so small.

‍

He made it and proved everyone wrong, he was with me for 10 years through the best and worst moments of my life.. I got sick at the beginning of this year and was in the hospital for 3 months before going through a surgery of losing my arm, my sister was at my house pet sitting but I would sneak out of the hospital to come home so I could see lucky and my other cat.

‍

When I finally got to come home at the end of May I noticed lucky wasn’t eating a lot so I tried everything I could to get him to eat more but he was still acting normal so I thought maybe it was just the change of me not being home for 3 months and then coming home.

‍

By June I decided to take him to the vet because he had stopped eating completely and they did testing and said his kidney levels were up a little bit but he should be ok. 3 days after my birthday in July I had to make the difficult decision to put him to rest because everything just got worse but the vets weren’t sure why.

‍

After I got his ashes back and asked why I hadn’t gotten his test results back I finally had my vet call and tell me it was due to a gallbladder leak into his body so he was filling up with fluids and there’s really nothing that could have been done.

‍

I’ll forever cherish the 10 years I got to spend with Lucky by my side and will miss him for forever and a day ❀
