Visite d'animaux

What is Pet Visiting?
Our Pet Visiting Program aims to uplift spirits and brighten days for our community with the help of our dedicated volunteers and their resident pets, or Pet Ambassadors, as we like to call them. The Ambassadors will visit nursing homes, universities, colleges, hospitals, hospices, shelters, community centers and more, bringing with them a wave of positivity, affection and unconditional love.
The Hamilton/Burlington SPCA Pet Visiting Program interactions are defined as Animal Assisted Activity (AAA). Animal Assisted Activities (AAAs) are planned and goal-oriented informal interactions and visits with human-animal teams, like our Pet Visiting Ambassadors, for motivational, educational and recreational purposes. Human-animal teams involved in AAA have received at least introductory training, preparation and assessment to participate in these informal visits.

Pet Visiting Request Form' and we will contact you with the next steps.
Our Pet Ambassadors can visit your organization monthly, for a one-time visit, or for an upcoming special event. Given the program's popularity and the sheer number of requests we receive, it is essential to request your visit early. While we strive to accommodate all preferred schedules, sometimes your first choice might not be available. Your understanding and flexibility are appreciated.

Perfect Pairs
We are always looking for new Pet Visiting Volunteers and Ambassadors; could you and your pet be the perfect pair we are looking for? As a Pet Visiting volunteer, you will be a part of the HBSPCA family with many rewarding opportunities to visit a variety of facilities with a flexible schedule.
We invite you to start the onboarding process by completing our 'Pet Visiting Self-Screen Quiz' to see if your pet could be a good fit for the program. While dogs are our most common Pet Ambassadors, we welcome any friendly and social pet to apply to the Pet Visiting Program!
Our Pet Visiting Ambassador animals make a huge impact in the lives of those they visit and we at the HBSPCA thank you for considering us as you look to share your valuable time.

Your generosity helps fund this heart-warming program but also ensures we can continue to share the healing presence of pets with everyone, making these invaluable experiences accessible to even more groups within our community.
Meet Team Happiness

Theodore

Hi there! My name is Theodoreâbut you can call me Tee-Ooo, Teodora, or Teo-Teo if you like. Iâm two and a half years old, and Iâve been with my family for just over two years now. Iâm not your average catâI love going outside, riding the bus, and watching TV.
Iâm a lovable, caring goofball who loves meeting new people. Belly rubs are my favourite, and I go crazy for tube-y treats like Churru. I also enjoy walks and exploring the outdoors, especially when I get to meet someone new.
I live with Rose, Carter, Enid, and Cheddar, and I enjoy spending time with them. When I see someone whoâs scared, nervous, or crying, Iâll head straight over to comfort themâitâs just who I am. Iâm calm and gentle, and I love making people feel better.
I joined the Pet Visiting Program in January 2025, and Iâve been winning hearts ever since. Whether Iâm sitting quietly or getting pets, I always try to make new friends. When Iâm relaxing, I love watching comedy shows, cartoons, veterinary programs, and horse racing.
I canât wait to meet you!

Tess Gracie

Hi there! My name is Tess Gracieâbut you can call me Tess, or even Ms. Gracie if youâre feeling fancy. Iâm three years old, and Iâve been with my family since I was just a tiny 10-week-old pup.
Iâm full of energy and love, and thereâs nothing I enjoy more than belly rubs, back scratches, and running around the park playing ballâespecially if other dogs are chasing me! Iâve got a big personality and a happy heart, and my family calls me the Treat Monster because Iâll do just about anything for a protein snack.
Iâm known for my fancy movesâI can walk on two legs (even backwards!) and do tricks like spin, high five, and sit pretty. When I see someone I love, Iâll run right over and sit by their feet, hoping for some rubs. I have a doggy brother named Eddie who lives with my extended family, and when we get together each week, itâs a full-on celebration.
Sometimes when I get really excited, I let out a happy little howlâit always makes people smile. I joined the Pet Visiting Program in June 2024, and Iâve been loving it ever since. Iâm joyful, sweet, and always ready to make a new friend.
I canât wait to meet you!

Olive

Hi there! My name is Oliveâbut you can call me Ollie, or Brown Dog if you're a close friend. Iâm turning 10 years old on October 23, 2025, and Iâve been with my family since I was 8 weeks old. I was adopted from the Hamilton SPCA just two days before Christmas, and Iâve been the best gift ever since.
Iâm calm, friendly, and smart, and I love spending time outside. I enjoy walks in the neighbourhood, exploring the trails at the RBG, and visiting my litter sister who lives nearby. I often stop by my neighboursâ house for treats and back scratches, and when things are quiet at home, I squeak my tennis ball to keep myself entertained.
Iâll never turn down sweet potato, beef liver, cheese, peppers, or cooked broccoli. I know all the classic tricksâsit, stay, lay down, dance, and leave itâand I wonât step outside unless I get the OK. I have a few quirks too: I shake off the moment it starts to rain, and I howl when I hear sirens.
I joined the Pet Visiting Program in June 2024, and I love greeting people with a gentle wag and a sneaky kiss. I remember everyone I meet and get more excited each time. People always say, âSheâs so calm,â and they never miss my extra-long tail!
I canât wait to meet you!

Phyllis

Hi there! My name is Phyllisâbut you can call me Phyl or even Phylly Cheesesteak if youâre feeling fun. I just turned two, and I joined my family in November 2023 when they adopted me from the HBSPCA.
Iâm a playful, curious girl whoâs always up to something! I love going for walks, getting muddy, chomping on sticks, and showing off my moves at agility class. Iâve got a soft spot for veggiesâbell peppers and cucumbers are my absolute favouritesâand donât even get me started on dental chews.
Iâm sweet, social, and full of love, and Iâll give you a tail-wagging welcome if we meet. Iâm learning cool tricks like high fives and agility jumps, and I never say no to a good back rub. People say I have a big personality and a mischievous streak, but itâs all part of my charm.
I joined the Pet Visiting Program in May 2025, and Iâve been soaking up the attention ever since. Iâm one of a kind, and I canât wait to make you smile!

Misty

Hi there! My name is Mistyâbut my humans call me Honey. Iâve heard it so often that Iâm pretty sure itâs my real name now!
Iâm nine years old, and my family says theyâve been incredibly lucky to have me in their lives for the past eight years. Iâm gentle, calm, and affectionate, but Iâve still got an adventurous sideâespecially when Iâm running through the woods with my red lab brother. Iâm older, so naturally, Iâm the boss... and he knows it.
Iâm not a big eater, but offer me some peanut butter or veggie sticks and Iâm all yours. Iâm also very routineâI like meals and walks at the same time every day, and I always wait at the window when itâs close to the time my dad gets home. Oh, and donât even think about feeding me unless the water bowl is right beside the food.
When the grandkids visit, I consider them part of my pack. I show affection in quiet little waysâlike gently rubbing against people or sitting close and leaning in. It always makes them smile.
I joined the Pet Visiting Program in February 2025, and Iâve loved it from the start. Iâm peaceful, loving, and known as the quietest dog my familyâs ever hadânot even my footsteps make a sound.
Iâd love to meet youâand when I do, Iâll be right by your side.

Farley

Hi, Iâm Farley!
Iâve been with my family for four years now, and lifeâs been pretty greatâespecially when thereâs snow. I love playing in it, and Iâm known for some seriously impressive zoomies when the mood strikes. I'm a happy, gentle soul who thinks everyone is a friend (and I usually greet them like weâve known each other foreverâwith a full tail wag, of course).
My favorite treats? Blueberries and my special peanut butter cookiesâyum. Iâve also got a cool uncle named Ash, who comes to visit and play all the time. He got his start at the HBSPCA, and now heâs part of my pack.
Every morning, I like to wake up Mom in my own special wayâby gently resting my neck across hers. Itâs my polite (but effective) way of saying, âWalk time, letâs go!â
I joined the Pet Visiting Program in May 2025, and Iâve loved every moment of it. Being around people makes me happy, and I think they can tell.
My family says Iâm something specialâand between you and me, I think theyâre right.
Hope I get to meet you soon!

Juno

Hi! Iâm Juno Tickle Princessâyep, thatâs my real name! Around here, I go by Juno J, Ju, Sad Face, or Pretty Girlâdepends on the moment.
Iâve been with my family since I was 8 weeks old, and now Iâm almost five. Iâm brilliant, joyful, and absolutely love people. On walks, I like to nibble bits of sticks, play fetch (but I donât give the ball back, sorry!), and make new human best friends wherever I go.
When it comes to food, Iâm all inâevery meal is a celebration. But pigâs ears? Next-level happiness. I live with my cat sibling Google, my brother Zack, and my sister Rose, so thereâs always something going on.
Iâve got a few special skills: I can keep a ball exactly two inches from your hand without ever letting you grab it. I can also back up around furniture and corners without even lookingâtotal pro. And every night, I grab my âbabyâ (my favorite dog stuffy from puppyhood) and settle in for bed. Ohâand I barely bark. Ever.
I joined the Pet Visiting Program in January 2025, and I welcome every new friend with a belly roll and tail wag. Iâve even been known to sit on peopleâs feet to keep them from leavingâbelly rubs must continue!
I love everyone I meet, and I canât wait to meet you too.

Lylah

Hey there! Iâm Lylahâsometimes Bear, if you really know me.
Iâve been with my family since I was just 8 weeks old, and now Iâm five and a half! Iâve got three human brothers and a couple of fish tanks at home, so thereâs always something going on. My favorite thing in the world? Hanging out with Dadâand chasing squirrels on walks (I will find them).
Iâm all about that healthy lifestyle, but Iâve got a soft spot for liver snaps. And cheese? Donât even get me started. Iâve got tons of energy and love meeting new peopleâespecially the ones who smell like other dogs.
Shoes are my thing... but not like that! I just love sleeping with them. Never chew, never stealâjust a cozy nap buddy. I know a pretty cool trick routine too, all with hand signals. No words needed!
I joined the Pet Visiting Program in May 2025 and Iâm usually just hanging out, being sweet and friendly with everyone I meet.
Oh, and I do love my peopleâbut honestly? If youâre a dog person, weâre going to get along just fine.
Canât wait to say hi!

Snickers

Hey there! Iâm SnickersâSnicky if weâre friends (and we will be). I joined my family four years ago and live with three cats, so Iâve learned to be pretty chill... at least until itâs time to play! I love fetchâespecially with two frisbeesâand a good game of tug with my thick rope. Snow piles? The best. I could jump and dig in them all day.Iâm a true opportunist when it comes to food. Iâll eat just about anything, which makes training a breeze! I do have a bunch of allergiesâbeef, turkey, grass, dust, and moreâbut my special frozen treats with Greek yogurt, peas, and spinach? Delicious.
People say Iâm goofy, sweet, and full of love. I know how to give high fives, shake paws, and roll over (but only on grass!). I share the house with my feline siblingsâWhiskey, Winnie von Kitty, and Lukey the Destroyer. Letâs just say... theyâre the bosses. I joined the Pet Visiting Program in February 2025, and I love making people smile. If you need a little extra love, Iâll lean in close or rest my head on your leg and give you the look. Works like magic. Canât wait to meet you soon!

Cricket

Hi there! Iâm Cricket.Iâm 12 years old and have been living my best life with my family for the past three years. I may be a little older, but Iâve got the heart of a pupâespecially when there are belly rubs or treats involved!
One of my favorite things to do is flop right onto my back, whether Iâm wide awake or fast asleep. Itâs kind of my signature move. Iâm a pretty relaxed and sociable gal who loves being near my peopleâespecially when itâs time for my favorite nighttime treat: half a DentaStick. (Yes, I know exactly when itâs coming.) I share my days with two tiny humansâmy grandbabies, Zeke and Archie. When theyâre around, youâll usually find me laying quietly beside them, just soaking up the love. Iâm gentle, calm, and always happy to be part of the moment.
I joined the Pet Visiting Program in June 2024, and itâs been such a joy. People say I have a soothing presenceâand I think theyâre right. I donât need to do much to make someoneâs day better.Just being me seems to be enough. And honestly, that feels pretty special.

Jersey

Hi! Iâm Jersey, but my family calls me Chunky Monkey (affectionately, of course!). Iâm 2 years old and have been with my family since I was just four months old. From day one, I knew cuddles and calm vibes were my thing. Iâm not much for zoomies or chaosâIâd rather lie around and soak up all the love and attention.
As a proud foodie, I donât play favorites when it comes to treats. If itâs edible, Iâm interested! Iâm super relaxed and chilled, and my human says Iâm the calmest pup around. I live in a full house with two other dogsâone older, one youngerâand a human brother, and I love every minute of it. One of my signature moves is the âpat me nowâ nudgeâIâll rub up against your legs until you get the hint. Trust me, it works every time.
I joined the Pet Visiting Program in June 2024 and absolutely love the extra attentionâitâs kind of my specialty. Fun fact: Iâm a total water dog and love paddle boarding, floating around like the queen I am. Canât wait to meet youâand maybe score a treat or two while Iâm at it!

Nugget

Hi, Iâm Nuggetâmy full name is Nugget Charles Darwin III Ireland. (But you can call me Nuggy, Chimkin, Little Pickerel, or Pooshious.) Iâm turning 11 this October and have been living the pampered life since I was a puppy. My days are all about the finer things: multiple pillows, sleeping under a duvet (with one leg elegantly sticking out for temperature control), and the gourmet alerts of a banana peel or peanut butter jar openingâmy ears are that good.
Though Iâm small, Iâve got a royal attitude. Iâm a sassy, independent little prince who shares his kingdom with my younger doggy brother, Philâa whirlwind whoâs been testing my patience for three years. Weâre working on it⊠slowly. I have a charming quirkâa single front tooth that gives me the goofiest smile, especially when my lip gets stuck. People canât get enough of it. And before I jump on anything, I gently rest my chin first, like a true gentleman checking the terrain.
I joined the Pet Visiting Program in June 2025, and Iâve loved bringing my signature sass, sweetness, and smile to new people ever since. Small but mighty, I make a big impressionâand I wouldnât have it any other way.

Benefits of the HBSPCA Pet Visiting Program
Animal assisted activities (AAA) have proven benefits of both physical and mental health in a variety of ways. Various studies have shown AAA to reduce; blood pressure, heart rate and overall anxiety. As well as improved healing times, social skills and even the overall mood of a participant. Many of our partner locations have shared very positive stories and feedback from visits, expressing the benefits of AAA being shown in their participants.

Facility Testimonials
The Hamilton/Burlington SPCA (HBSPCA) is offering our day program pet therapy to our participants. Â The program is benefiting our special needs adultâs participants by providing them emotional support, improving social skills, and enhancing overall well-being. Engaging with animals is leading to increased feelings of comfort and companionship, promoting a positive bond that fosters mental health and boosts self-esteem.

The Pet Visiting Program has been such a hit with our students. The animals have all been so sweet and well behaved, we've even converted a few students who were originally nervous around or hadn't had much interaction with dogs. We have students (and staff members) who regularly monitor the schedule to line up their visit with their favourite animals. Many of the students are away from home for the first time and missing their own pets, so a few minutes to decompress and get some cuddles makes a huge difference to them.
We are very grateful for the HBSPCA Pet Visiting Program and are so thankful for the joy it brings to the HBIA! The dogs and their owners bring a sense of calm and happiness to our members, offering both emotional support and comfort. We look forward to our monthly visits and the special connection they bring.

The clock is ticking. Make your donation before December 31st to receive your 2025 tax receipt and support the cause.
