Come spend an afternoon learning Mahjong, enjoying delicious matcha, and hanging out with some adorable cats, all while supporting animals in need!

The Hamilton Chinese Association is excited to host Matcha + Meow Jong, a fun and welcoming community event bringing together Mahjong players of all experience levels, cat lovers, and anyone looking to try something new.

Whether you have been playing Mahjong for years or have never even touched a Mahjong tile before, you are invited! No previous experience is necessary. Our goal is to create a relaxed, social environment where everyone can learn, play, meet new people, and have a great time.

Learn to Play Mahjong

Always wanted to learn how to play Mahjong but never knew where to start? This is your chance!

Before we begin playing, the Hamilton Chinese Association team will provide an introduction to the basics of Hong Kong-style Mahjong and teach newcomers how to get started. You do not need to know anything about Mahjong beforehand.

Please note that there are many different styles and variations of Mahjong played around the world. To keep things straightforward and accessible for this event, we will be teaching and playing Hong Kong-style Mahjong only.

All playing levels are welcome, from complete beginners to experienced Mahjong players.

Matcha, Coffee & Treats

What goes better with an afternoon of Mahjong than matcha and something sweet?May Coffee will be joining us at the event and serving up matcha, along with coffee and delicious cakes and treats available for purchase.Take a break from the tables, grab a drink and a snack, and enjoy the atmosphere at The Cotton Factory while meeting fellow members of the community.

Meet Some Special Guests from the HBSPCA

There will also be some very special guests stopping by!

Cats from the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA Pet Visiting Program will be visiting the event, giving attendees the chance to meet some adorable furry friends.

They are excited to bring a little extra meow to Mahjong!

If you are a cat lover, this is definitely an event you won't want to miss. Just be prepared for the possibility that your Mahjong strategy may be interrupted by an especially cute visitor.

Supporting Animals in Our Community

Best of all, proceeds from Matcha + Meow Jong will be donated to the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA.

The HBSPCA is a donor-supported animal shelter serving animals and people throughout our community. Donations help provide the food, shelter, veterinary care, enrichment, and other essential services animals need while they are in our care.

By joining us for Matcha + Meow Jong, you are not only trying something new and connecting with your community, but also helping provide care for animals who need it.

Every contribution makes a difference, and we are incredibly grateful to the Hamilton Chinese Association, May Coffee, The Cotton Factory, and everyone who participates for helping make this event possible.
