Event Information
Virtual TNVR 101 teaches humane trapping, neutering, vaccinating, and returning community cats while managing colonies responsibly.
Virtual TNVR 101 is an educational online presentation offered by the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA (HBSPCA) to support caregivers, volunteers, and community members who want to help community cats in a humane and effective way. This presentation introduces TNVR—Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, and Return—as the proven, humane approach to managing free-roaming and feral cat populations.
What You'll Learn
Presented by HBSPCA staff involved in the Community Cat Program, TNVR 101 walks participants through each step of the process. Attendees will learn safe and humane trapping techniques, how to properly prepare for a TNVR appointment, and what to expect before and after surgery. The presentation explains the importance of spay/neuter and vaccinations, and how returning cats to their original territory helps stabilize colonies and improve overall cat health.
The HBSPCA also focuses on responsible colony management, including feeding best practices, monitoring cat health, and understanding normal community cat behavior. The session highlights common challenges caregivers face and offers practical guidance based on the HBSPCA’s experience working with community cats.
Virtual TNVR 101 also explains how HBSPCA supports community cat caregivers through its Community Cat Program, including available resources, policies, and guidance on working within the community.
What You'll Gain
Participants will leave with a clear understanding of how TNVR benefits cats, caregivers, and neighborhoods, and how they can work alongside HBSPCA to make a lasting, positive impact.
Who Is This For?
This presentation is ideal for first-time caregivers, those considering TNVR, or anyone looking to strengthen their knowledge and confidence in caring for community cats.
