The HBSPCA Sends Over 65,000 lbs of Lifesaving Pet Food to Wildfire Zones

Youth discover passion and purpose in animal welfare through summer jobs at the HBSPCA, gaining skills and shaping future careers.
The early morning light barely touches the quiet streets as the HBSPCA mobile clinic van rolls into the parking lot of a community centre in Hamilton.
Inside the van, Michelle Macnab, Director of Community Veterinary Services, reviews her checklist one last time. Today marks another opportunity to provide crucial veterinary care to pet guardians who face barriers accessing traditional vet services.

Michelleâs voice carries a calm determination. âOur Pet Health Outreach Clinics are about more than vaccines or exams,â she says. âTheyâre about supporting families, building trust, and ensuring pets arenât forgotten when times get tough.â
As the team begins setting up, pet guardians start to arrive. Among the first is Mary-Ann, clutching a carrier with her shy cat, Clover. Mary-Annâs faced recent financial struggles and hasnât been able to afford Cloverâs vaccinations.
