Earlier this month, the HBSPCA hosted another unforgettable Paint Your Pet class—an event that brings together creativity, community, and compassion in the most heartwarming way.
Guests arrived at our facility for a guided painting experience unlike any other. Before the event, attendees submitted photos of their beloved pets, and a local artist hand-sketched each one onto a canvas. With drinks in hand and snacks nearby, guests were led through a step-by-step painting session, transforming simple sketches into vibrant, personal portraits.
Whether seasoned artists or total beginners, everyone found joy in the process—and more than a few laughs along the way.
A Painting Class With Purpose
The class was designed to be fun, relaxed, and accessible to all skill levels. Each table was filled with cheerful conversation, shared stories, and creative collaboration. It was inspiring to see our community come together over a shared love of animals and the joy of making something meaningful.
Of course, no great event is complete without refreshments! Guests enjoyed a delicious selection of snacks, drinks, and treats throughout the day, adding to the laid-back, welcoming vibe of the experience.
A Look Behind the Scenes: Touring the HBSPCA
In addition to painting, attendees were invited on a guided tour of our facility. Many were surprised to learn how far our work extends beyond adoption services.
As part of our commitment to community care, the HBSPCA offers a wide range of programs and services designed to support both animals and people, including:
- Community Cat Program – Humane Trap‑Neuter‑Vaccinate‑Return (TNVR) services for community cats
- Dog Training – Professional behavior and skills classes for dogs and their guardians
- Pet Visiting – Certified pet ambassadors bringing joy to seniors, schools, and healthcare facilities
- Birthday Parties – Shelter-based celebrations perfect for young animal lovers
- Camps – Rescue Rangers Summer Camp for kids aged 6–14
- Field Trips & Tours – Educational experiences introducing the community to animal welfare and shelter work
And that’s just the beginning. Our mission extends throughout Hamilton and Burlington, touching lives every day through support, education, and advocacy.
Special Guests: Shelter Dogs in the Spotlight
One of the most memorable aspects of the day was the opportunity to meet a few of the HBSPCA’s adoptable dogs. Throughout the event, our team brought out some of our shelter pups for short, supervised meet-and-greets with guests.
These interactions aren’t just enjoyable—they’re important. Moments like this help our dogs become more social, confident, and comfortable around new people and environments. It’s a key step in preparing them for adoption and showcasing their true personalities in a safe, supportive setting.
More Than Just a Painting
Events like Paint Your Pet are about more than creativity—they’re about connection. They give our community the chance to come together, learn something new, support a good cause, and leave with more than just a finished piece of art.
They leave with memories, inspiration, and a deeper connection to the mission of the HBSPCA.
We’re so grateful to everyone who attended, and to the incredible artist who helped make each pet portrait come to life. Your participation helps raise vital funds for shelter operations and gives our animals the socialization and exposure they need to find loving forever homes.
