You Help Seniors Secure a Second Chance at Happiness

Senior pets like Audrey and Rocky thrive because caring donors step up to give them the futures they deserve.
Audacious Audrey
Senior Cat Audrey entered our shelter at an old age, through no fault of her own. Unfortunately, senior pets can be overlooked for adoption, when tiny kittens and adorable puppies are also available.
One of our special HBSPCA donors didn’t want this to happen to sweet Audrey. This donor is also a senior, and she totally fell in love with little Audrey. While timing wasn’t right for her to get another pet, she didn’t want to see Audrey sit in shelter for weeks, losing weight from the stress of her new situation. She had to act!
Covering the Adoption Fees
This caring donor offered to cover Audrey’s adoption fee, in hopes that this would get her adopted faster. We’re thrilled to tell you that it worked! Audrey was adopted quickly, and her adopters shared some adorable photos of her settling into her new home.

They also shared this:
“Audrey’s new sister is a little jealous and stays away from her, but Audrey still comes around and does her thing. She is also very curious about her turtle siblings. She is feeling much better and getting lots of love. She has gained her weight back and loves her treats. She LOVES cuddles and has started demanding them before bed every night. She is so perfect!”
Rocky is Ready to Roll
When 11-year-old Rocky arrived at the HBSPCA, his world had just been turned upside down. His beloved owner had passed away, and for the first time in his life, Rocky found himself in unfamiliar surroundings, surrounded by new faces, sounds, and smells. He was confused, grieving, and clearly uncomfortable — not just emotionally, but physically too.
Rocky, was suffering from serious dental disease. His teeth were so painful that it was hard for him to eat. Thankfully, our veterinary team immediately stepped in. The first step was running a full geriatric blood panel — essential for any senior pet undergoing treatment. The results confirmed the worst: Rocky had an advanced oral infection.
Thanks to your generous support, Rocky was started on pain management right away, and his extensive dental procedure took place a tour Companion Animal Hospital. While under anesthesia, Rocky was also neutered, and a 4 cm mass was removed and sutured with great care.

Long Road to Recovery
Rocky's road to recovery was long, but he was in good hands, thanks to you! Being in foster care helped his Rocky’s heart heal as much as his body.
To ensure Rocky was fully ready for adoption, he had a series of radiographs to rule out any heart or lung abnormalities. Preparing a senior dog like Rocky for a new life takes time, skill, compassion— and yes, a significant financial investment.
Adoption fees only cover a small portion of the care Rocky received.
It’s thanks to donors like you that we can say yes to animals like him.
You make it possible for the HBSPCA to provide senior pets with the dignity, comfort, and second chances they deserve.

Rocky has now been happily adopted and is enjoying a truly lavish retirement. His new family shares that he spends his days exploring a large property, playing like a puppy again, and sleeping soundly in a big, cozy bed.
Rocky’s journey is a reminder of the impact we can make together — one life at a time.
Thank you for believing in second chances.
