It's Spooky Season - the HBSPCA Wants to See Your Pet's Costume

Hamilton, ON - What if your pet's Halloween costume could win them a professional photoshoot, a spot in the 2027 HBSPCA Calendar, and $1,000 worth of pet food? At the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA, that is what is up for grabs.

The HBSPCA, in partnership with Pet Valu Binbrook, has officially launched its Halloween Pet Costume Contest, inviting pet owners to dress up their furry friends, enter online, and compete for one of the most exciting prize packages of the season. The contest runs from September 1 to November 1, 2026 - and the pet with the most votes at the close of the contest will be crowned the Champion, earning a coveted spot in the 2027 HBSPCA Calendar, a professional autumn-themed photoshoot, and $1,000 worth of pet food courtesy of Pet Valu Binbrook.

But behind all the fun is a mission that matters. Every vote is a donation - with every $1 donated counting as one vote - meaning every costume, every share, and every vote directly supports the HBSPCA's programs and services for animals in need. The campaign goal is $10,000, all of which goes toward providing shelter, medical care, and second chances for vulnerable animals.

How It Works

Pet owners submit a photo of their pet - preferably dressed up for spooky season - through the contest page at gogophotocontest.com/hbspca for a $5.00 entry fee. From there, share your pet's page far and wide and encourage family and friends to vote. Every dollar donated equals one vote, and the pet with the most votes at noon on November 1 takes home the grand prize.

No pet? No problem. Anyone can cast a vote for their favourite contestant and still make a difference for animals in need.

For dogs, the grand prize photoshoot will take place at the festive pumpkin patch at Carluke Orchards in Ancaster. Cats will enjoy a cozy fall-themed shoot right at the HBSPCA. Both shoots are scheduled between November 3 and November 9, 2026. The $1,000 pet food prize is redeemable in person at Pet Valu Binbrook.
