Sadie’s Story: How Compassion Changed Everything

When Sadie first came into our care as an owner surrender, it was immediately clear that this gentle little dog needed help. What began as an intake exam quickly revealed a heartbreaking list of medical concerns - each one adding to the discomfort she had been quietly enduring.

Sadie's Urgent Medical Needs

During her intake, our team discovered that Sadie was suffering on multiple fronts. She had a severe ear infection causing ongoing pain, a hernia that required surgical repair, and she was not spayed. She also had an eye ulcer that needed careful monitoring, along with frequent, painful urination that prompted our medical team to investigate further.

While Sadie was already sedated for her spay and hernia repair, our team made the critical decision to take X-rays. Those images revealed one large bladder stone and several smaller stones that required specialized surgery. Soon after, Sadie developed green eye discharge, and testing showed dangerously low tear production. She was started on antibiotics and eye drops to help keep her comfortable and protect her vision.

As her care continued, we also found significant tartar buildup, meaning Sadie would need a dental cleaning and X-rays, with the possibility of extractions. ‍

Her medical journey had grown more complex than anyone expected, and the estimated cost of her surgeries, testing, treatment, and ongoing care reached $7,000.

A Gentle Spirit Through it All

Despite everything she was facing, Sadie’s spirit never dimmed. She greeted staff with a gentle tail wag and placed her trust in the people working to give her the comfort and care she had long been missing. Her resilience inspired an urgent appeal to our community: Sadie needed help, and she needed it quickly.

Thanks to the incredible support of our community, Sadie was able to receive the care she needed. Even more than that, the response exceeded every expectation.

While the original emergency goal was $7,000, supporters raised $14,000 for Sadie’s care.

That generosity changed more than one life. Because of the additional support, we were also able to provide much-needed dental care for two other dogs in our care, Benji and Milo. The extra funds also made it possible to sponsor Sadie’s adoption fee, giving her the best possible chance at finding the forever home she deserves.

Sadie Today

Today, Sadie is thriving in her loving adoptive home. She found the family she had been waiting for, and she is now enjoying the comfort, stability, and care she deserves. She has recovered from her bladder stone surgery, her spay, and her hernia repair. She also completed her dental procedure and handled it like a champ.

Sadie is feeling so much better as she settles into this happy new chapter.
