Rescued with heartworm and Lyme disease while caring for newborn puppies, Sammy’s story is one of resilience, healing, and love.

When Sammy first came into our care last summer, she was exhausted and very sick - yet still trying to care for her three-day-old puppies after being abandoned in a rural area. Testing revealed heartworm and Lyme disease. She needed time, careful treatment, and months of support before she could begin to heal. Because of you, she got that chance.

While her 11 puppies quickly found loving homes, Sammy stayed behind to recover. Day by day, with medication, rest, and compassion, she grew stronger. We could not have given her the time she needed without you.

Finally, in January, after nearly five months in care and spay surgery, Sammy was ready for her own fresh start.

Today, she is thriving. Her family says she “has quite a personality.” She loves her daily walks, visits to the dog park, and meeting new friends. Each night, she sleeps peacefully, safe, loved, and full of energy for whatever tomorrow brings. She’s even shining in her training classes.

“She is such a sweet girl… so smart and full of life.”

Because of you, Sammy is no longer just surviving. She is home, she is loved, and she is living the life she always deserved.
